Preparing Your Vehicle For Road Trips

Now that we're well into spring and summer is just next month, many people may be taking or planning to take road trips for vacations or family trips/events. Since this may be a long trip, and you may be driving in unfamiliar territory, it is a good idea to be prepared and have everything in your car and ensure your car is ready for this event. Here are our best tips for long road trips!

Pack your Car!

There are certain things you should always have in your car, like a spare tire, spark plugs, blankets, flares, etc. but there are even MORE things that you should have for a long trip! Make sure you have the following items in your car before heading out:

Map (in case your phone dies or you lose signal)

Phone charger for car

SNACKS!

Pillows / blankets for passengers that wish to nap

Water bottles / a cooler with drinks

and cash on hand

Prepare your Car!

Before you set out, it's important to ensure your vehicle is prepared for the long journey. You don't want to find yourself stranded with vehicle problems in unfamiliar territory! Visit your local preferred car care center and have the following things checked:

Tire tread / wheel alignment

All fluids

Check engine light (if it's on)

Oil checked and changed if necessary

Battery tested

Don't forget, when you receive an oil change from OTA, we include a free 29-point safety inspection! Perfect for before a road trip!

Do Some Research!

It's important to at least have a general idea of where you will be traveling and what areas you will be passing through. This way, if you take a wrong turn, you may know at least what general area you are in and can locate businesses nearby to redirect you or provide fuel if need be.
